The style of this render is in a class of its own.
The lights are really dim though.

In Blender you can’t be afraid to crank the lights up really high as they’re not very powerful.

The character is really stylish too, she looks like she’s living the high life as a cave dweller, she’s even got boots!

The background looks lived in as well.
I love the attention to detail.

0Jumbi0 responds:

I appreciate the feedback! It should be fixed now. I used megaman legends 3d models as reference, particularly shinki’s hair

She looks the complete opposite in theme than Metal Sonic, maybe if she looked less cutesy and more edgy it would be way less jarring.

SoloSwing64 responds:

Thank you for your feed back. I'll keep that in mind

Yes their designs are adorable and all, and the advice is super on the nose and straight to the point.
But there's a disconnect, their dialogue dynamic is practically invisible.
They're complete opposites this makes for the perfect situation for comedic banter.

It seems like all the jokes are only one sided "haha stupid Zoe".
But Zoe is fighter, she'd be funnier if she interjected.

It doesn't even have to be outlandish or rude, just something...

Zoe clearly cares a lot about status more than anything, why would she let Amber talk down to her live in front the entire internet?

To be quite frank Amber needs to show some humility, she's overconfident in her advice. Zoe would be the perfect catalyst to bring her down to Earth.

Everyone has something to teach even the unlikely.

AWildDomino responds:

Thank you for the criticism!

Everything you listed here does have reasoning behind here :>
Amber isn't the comedic type and she doesn't know how to be funny, so Zoe is there to fill that space by making funny faces but also being genuine!

And Zoe does care about status but not around Amber as they are very close and she feels comfortable to let her guard down because of that ^^

Amber is confident in her advice because before they start recording, they talk about the topic and pass ideas off of each other, with Zoe providing her own feedback and agreeing or disagreeing with Amber's suggestions. I do have ideas for side comics where I explore these characters more as they are very straight forward in the main series, due to me just wanting to get a point across and provide general advice through these characters :D

Blender eevees an odd duck.
On default the shadows are gray.
It works fine for indoor settings with white light.

But shadows actually have colors, they are usually the same color that the sky happens to be at the moment. On dreary cloudy days, gray shadows are perfect, on a sunny day with a blue sky it looks dreary. Darker blue shadows would fit that.

If you make the shadows the opposite temperature of the sky it looks unsettling to say the least. It's good for more abstract stylistic stuff.

To change the color of shadows simply change the color in the world environment tab.

The strength on that tab ,also makes a huge difference. If it's night time set the strength low if it's day time brighter.

I also noticed that their sun is completely white too, on Earth the Sun appears to be yellow.
But since this isn't Earth you could try all sorts of sun lamp colors. And see what sticks.

These may seem like minor nitpicks, but trust me they'll make your render pop! And look full of life.

CaptainElemental responds:

What does that have to do with this? You don't state enough context on how that relates to this picture.

Pretty interesting ability set for a character, but as for the design, the first thing that comes to mind when I see her is "cool a ghost!"
(I'm a Pac-man fan, gotta eat all the dots waka waka)

If you add any more monster features to her, it will her look even more ghostly. A different color pallet wouldn't help either Luigi's Mansion made them every color. Also some ghost have legs too.

Maybe it would help to combine different genres, like add some cyborg prosthetics, or some traits from nature, or make her made of a different material like glass, crystal, or metal.

Usually when I'm at the bottom of the barrel and desperate when creating new species. I try inorganic geometric shapes like wheels ,cubes, tetrahedrons, geometric patterns, or common manufactured items for appendages.
Or go for disembodied attachments like Rayman.
But that's just me.

CaptainElemental responds:

Umm, I don't think you really understand what this is about.

Come on man, I know you can do better than this.
The line quality is not your finest.
The expressions and posing are stiff and rushed.

If you wanted views you got them...but as for me I feel a bit deprived of HorseFolder's personality for this one specific piece.

There’s is no static design to modern Sonic , he has slight changes to his model color and proportions in every story.

Sonic 06 really long quills narrow long corneas. Thin long arms and legs.

Sonic Heroes: massive feet, with huge hands that dragged to the ground. Neon loud color palette.

Sonic Forces his quills were small and he had more realistic details like scratches on his shoes and 3dish quills, and skin that realistically absorbed light.

Sonic Adventure 2 dark fur and skin really massive brow muscles. Soap Shoes.

Sonic X only three quills. Bigger head.

Sonic Prime his mouth actually was in the middle of his head instead of on the side.
Along with lesser ear and brow detail.
And triangle patterns to represent quills.

Sonic Boom taller stature, athletic tape everywhere extra quills. The rest is obvious.

I don’t know why they keep on bringing back that circa 2000 render of him but the whole point of his series is to be different in each iteration.
After all the designer of him said that he’s supposed to be make believe character that someone made as a way to tell many different stories.

Sure Trudy is more complex and realistic, but Gertrude is the perfect opposite to the Aunty Lynette character which makes for a better dynamic.

Usually buddy comedy is at its finest when two opposites are put together. If two characters are the same, it makes things predictable.

Predictably is the complete opposite of comedy.

Nobody becomes a neat freak or perfectionist for without reason.

For the sake of your own sanity and to make Gertrude a more complex character maybe you could reverse her transformation on chronologically. Perhaps Trudy went too far and did some thing Gertrude currently still regrets, giving Gertrude a reason to change and try to be spotless and perfect.

Infinite actually had a solid backstory it's just that it was unfinished and edited to death. Shadow killed or horribly maimed his cronies that were all jackals like him, who knows, they could've even been family, they just were too lazy to model and design them all, you just had to pay an extreme amount of attention to the dialogue and text. And read in between the lines.

And Infinite's reaction was just rushed and unfinished, he should've said why he was scared, he wiped out his brothers. And most likely due to over editing to make it kid friendly Shadow wasn't even allowed to do what he's known for best in their battle, show completely no mercy.

The only thing that was interesting about Roxas was what he could do, and how he looked, personality wise he was absolutely bankrupt. He had no traits other than being inquisitive, but that didn't even matter that much, as he could never remember anything anyway.

Eight point elevator wait days out of eight was a catastrophic mistake. What company decides it would be entertaining to make personality-less husk the main character of an entire saga?

Especially if he is canonically incapable of ever even receiving a single sliver of one. Not to mention the "new world" you could explore was just a series of blank white rooms.
I almost fell asleep in my chair.

Big corporate pick pocket there! I'm glad that I only borrowed it and put it down after three worlds instead of forking over cash to writers that didn't even want to try.

As for the art review, he reminds me of the style of an old 90's cartoon akin to Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century or Phantom 2040.

I made a conjoined comic universe of around 300 original characters. Full of adorable little watcha-ma-call-its, robots, super heroes, super scientists, and much more.

I’m a dude
